From the principal's desk
Algarah rests in the valley of Paiyong, on either side of the Kanchenjunga range, twelve kilometres from Kalimpong town. Many families here depend on agriculture, farming and small trades, and the journey to a good school in town has long been out of reach for common people.
St. Mary's School was founded in 2007 to meet that need: quality, value-added, modern education for the children of this area, built around wholesome, child-centred development and supported by computer education.
We are a non-profit institution, run by an eleven-member trust alongside a dedicated team of teachers and staff, and we educate children irrespective of caste, class, race or religion. Our aim stays the same — to help every child face the future with sound character, self-confidence and the tools to build a more just and peaceful world.

St. Mary's School, Algarah, Kalimpong is a co-educational English-medium school at 17th Mile, Paiyong, P.O. Algarah, established in 2007 by the 17th Mile, Paiyong St. Mary's School Society (Regd.). The school received affiliation from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, in 2018, and holds CBSE Affiliation No. 2430247.
Our aim is to help children develop a well-balanced personality on progressive lines — with a comprehensive outlook, self-confidence and sound character — so they are ready to face the future as good citizens. We work to give every child equal opportunity for physical, intellectual, aesthetic and spiritual growth, and to help them build a world guided by love, justice and peace.
The school runs a lower section and an upper section, with the continued support of our teachers, managing committee and guardians behind every step of its growth.
